About this call

The Nordic Council of Ministers invites project proposals for Nordic Currents, an international culture initiative running in 2027 and 2028 that asks cultural organisations in neighbouring European countries to work with Nordic partners. Rather than a festival, it is designed as an open platform, so projects can take the form of performing arts, music, literature, film, exhibitions, cultural programmes or interdisciplinary collaborations. Each project must offer both public cultural events and elements of sector development such as network building and knowledge sharing, and must run between 1 June 2027 and 1 June 2028. Programming must feature artists and cultural actors from every Nordic country, meaning Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Aland. Proposals are assessed on artistic quality, connection to the Nordic region, relevance to the artistic fields covered, and how the project promotes democratic values.

Who can apply

  • Regional applicants
  • Medium: Performance / Writing / Video / Mixed Media
  • Free entry
  • Applicants must be established organisations, meaning cultural organisations, institutions, promoters, festivals, producers, embassies or diplomatic missions working with arts and culture partners. Individual artists cannot apply. The organisation must be based in a European country neighbouring the Nordic region, primarily Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland or the United Kingdom, and must have at least two partners from different Nordic countries actively involved throughout. Activities must primarily take place in the applicant's own country. Co-financing from local, national or other sources is a prerequisite. Proposals are submitted in English through an online portal open from 1 October to 1 November 2026, and selected projects are announced in May 2027.
