About this call
The 4th Matsu Biennial invites international artists and creative practitioners to develop site-responsive proposals for the Matsu Islands, a remote archipelago in Lienchiang County, Taiwan. The biennial runs 20 August to 7 November 2027 and explores Matsu's unique identity as a Cold War military outpost alongside its Eastern Min culture and coastal environment. Proposals are invited across three thematic axes: The Island (Eastern Min culture, religious practices, traditional architecture, returning residents); The Outpost (site translation, geopolitics, collective memory); and The Ocean (environmental care, marine sustainability, sea sparkles, marine debris). Accepted formats include site-specific installations, participatory creative projects, interdisciplinary actions, immersive experiences, and community interactions. Approximately 4 to 5 proposals will be selected, each receiving a grant of approximately NT$800,000.
