About this call

The University of Michigan is accepting applications for the Michigan Society of Fellows postdoctoral fellowships, including a new Arts Initiative fellowship that the Society is piloting for the 2027 to 2030 and 2028 to 2031 terms. The Arts Initiative adds one dedicated fellowship position in the arts alongside the Society's six annual fellowships, and for the 2027 to 2030 term it is available in Creative Writing within the English Department and in Film, Television, & Media. Fellows hold a three-year appointment as a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor in an affiliated department and as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Society, and teach the equivalent of one academic year across the term. The current annual stipend is $63,000, with eligibility for University health, dental and life insurance programs and up to $3,000 a year from Society funds for research or travel. Fellows are expected to be in residence in Ann Arbor from September to May, to take part in monthly colloquia and Society dinners, and to help evaluate new applicants. Arts Initiative applicants must have completed an MFA or comparable terminal degree in the arts between June 1, 2024 and August 24, 2027, and non-US citizens may apply. The deadline is Monday, September 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT, with the application form available from August 1.
