Queer|Art Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Visual Artists
About this call
Now in its 7th year, the Queer|Art Illuminations Grant is an annual award dedicated to shedding light on the under-recognized contributions of Black trans women visual artists and providing critical support to their continuing work. The grant awards $10,000 to one recipient and $1,250 each to four finalists, with all award recipients receiving studio visits with judges and access to professional development resources. Applications are reviewed by a jury that in 2026 includes Jordyn Jay, Isis Awad, and Ute Petit. The program defines early-career broadly, and applicants may be of any age, self-taught or degree-holding, and may have previously received limited grant support. The grant was made possible through the support of photographer Mariette Pathy Allen, whose four-decade body of work has centered transgender communities. Application is free of charge via SlideRoom.
